Last Hope Sanctuary
A home for animals who need a break
Mallorca is often seen as a paradise for tourists but for the island’s animals, this often isn’t the case
Many of them have known cruelty or suffering for much of their lives before they arrived with us. Our aim is to show them all that there is more to life than fear, pain, hunger and sickness. For however long we have them we want them to experience kindness, security, fun and love. For cats who have struggled to live on the streets, dogs who have spent years on chains, pigs who somehow managed to escape the slaughterhouse, goats with their feet tethered or a horse who was used as a breeding machine, we’re here to make the difference.
If you enjoy the company of animals why not come for a working vacation on the beautiful island of Mallorca? We will provide you with free accommodation, vegan food and a small wage in return for helping out with the animals.

Richard Thoburn explains that not every home wants an elderly dog or an animal with behavioural issues.
A place animals can be free and safe
Not every home wants an old dog, or donkey. But these are glorious animals with their own unique personalities and we love them all. But if you have a dog or animal friendly environment and can manage the responsibility of taking one of our precious animals, let’s talk.
Some of our other residents
-
Blanca
Blanca came from someone with an animal hoarding issue
-

Helga and Mona
Our team forms very close bonds with all the animals.
-

Aston
Aston has limited mobility. He gets about though dragging his rear paws and maintains a positive outlook on life.
“I’m Rosalita the goat, but I prefer the company of sheep to other goats.”
Rosalita
“I’m Roger the Pot Bellied Vietnamese pig. I like pears and I just turned up at the sanctuary and have been here ever since.”
Roger
“I’m Dolsa the donkey and I often snaffle the cat food left out for the my feline buddies.”
Dolsa
Fancy volunteering for a season with us?
Sadly, we can’t give every animal who has endured maltreatment a home in our sanctuary in Mallorca, and the limit is really the resources we can provide. That’s why we can always use motivated animal people (‘animalistas') with a strong work ethic and a compassionate and cooperative attitude. Some Spanish and a driving license would be helpful but not essential if you have the right attitude. If this sounds like you, please get in touch.
We believe animals deserve the space and saftey to be themselves.
A different attitude to animals
We believe that all animals deserve some quality of life. If they’re an old dog with the odd behavioural issue, we feel we owe them a few good years while they’re in our care. After all, most of our residents have had a pretty miserable existence before they arrived. Our priority is quality of life. That’s best delivered in a home, but it’s not always possible. If you have some ‘animalista’ sympathies and can help us with our mission, why not get in touch?
